West Bengal Forest Department Recruitment

Introduction

West Bengal  with more than nine crore population, is the India’s fourth-most populous state of the country and its geographical area is equal in size to Serbia. West Bengal shares its borders with other countries like Bangladesh in the east and with Nepal and Bhutan in the north. West Bengal has 14% of the geographical area under forest cover, which is lower than the national average of 23%. A Part of Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest, is located in southern West Bengal. The forests of West Bengal consists of 6 national parks and 15 wildlife sanctuaries.

West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Ltd. was started in 1974. The forest department mainly focuses on the creation of new eco-tourism centers, large-scale harvesting of forest produces, production and marketing of forest products etc. The administrative set up of West Bengal Forest Development Corporation Limited is headed by the officers of the Forest Directorate on deputation. Positions

The department recruits forest officers for the vacant positions in the forest department.

Eligibility

  1. The aspiring candidate must be a citizen of India as per the definition given in part-II of the constitution
  2. The candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent with at least one of the following subjects- Agriculture,               Geology, Physics, Botany, Engineering (Agriculture/ Civil/ Chemical/ Electronics/ Electrical/ Mechanical),  Veterinary               science, Statistics, Horticulture, Mathematics, Forestry,  Zoology or Honours, from a recognized university
  3. Candidate must not be below 21 years and more than 27 years of age

Application Procedure

  • Candidates should need to visit the official website and should fill the application form online
  •  Then the candidates need to pay the required fee amount before submitting the application.

Selection Procedure

The selection process consists of two parts namely Written and personality test. Candidates need to qualify in the Written Examination then the Personally Test. The Written Examination will carry 700 marks and personality Test will carry 100 marks.

First, the candidate should have the required criteria of height and other physical standards. Then they need to go through the walking test, then they should attend the written examination. Once the candidates clear the written examination, the interview will be the last step in the selection process. Based on the performance in written exam and interview the candidates are selected for the post.

Walking test

Male candidates should walk 25 km in 4 hours and female candidate needs to cover a distance of 16 km in four hours on foot.

Preliminary exam

This exam is of qualifying nature carrying 200 marks and 2 1/2 hours of time is allocated. The question paper pattern and weightage of different topics in given below. The candidates qualified in prelims will be allowed to write the main examination. The commission will fix the qualifying marks based on the number of candidates applied, and vacant posts.

Written Examination

The written examination consists of two groups i.e., Compulsory Subjects and Optional Subjects

(a) Compulsory Subjects will be consisting of three subjects listed below

  • (i) English (Essay, Précis writing and Composition);
  • (ii) General Studies;
  • (iii) Bengali or Hindi or Urdu or Nepali (Précis writing, Essay, and Composition)

(b) Candidates need to select two Optional Subjects from the below list of subjects :

(i) Agriculture; (ii) Botany; (iii) Chemistry; (iv) Computer Application, Computer

Science; (v) Engineering (Agriculture, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical,

Electronics, Mechanical); (vi) Forestry; (vii) Geology; (viii) Horticulture; (ix)

Mathematics; (x) Physics; (xi) Statistics (xii) Veterinary Science; (xiii) Zoology

and (xiv) Environmental Science.

Interview/Viva voce

The candidates qualified in the mains examination will be called for interview. The interview boards assess the attitude, Mental strength, leadership qualities and personality of the candidates for their suitability to the job.  The interview/personality test carries 200 marks.
