Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test


Since ancient times, teaching is regarded as one of the sacred and most important professions. Even the smallest motivation or inspiration can imprint in children’s mind. So, the aspiring candidates for teachers needs to be very strong mentally and should have high motivation spirits.

Board of Secondary Education, Odisha conducts Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test/Odisha TET exam every year. This exam is generally abbreviated as OTET and is intended to fill the vacant posts in the teaching sector of the State. Through this examination, the board recruits graduates and diploma holders as teachers for Primary (Class 1st-5th) and Upper Primary (Class 6th-8th) government run schools in the State. This Exam is Compulsory for the aspiring candidates to be considered for the Teacher jobs in the government schools. Even many private management schools are considering the TET score. Chattisgarh TETUP TETJharkhand TETBihar TETTS- TET, etc., are other popular TET exams in the country.


1.To become teachers for classes I-V in primary schools of Odisha.The minimum education qualification is Higher Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education or Diploma in Education or Special Education which are approved by RCICategory A
2.To become teachers for classes VI-VIIICandidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with a  minimum of 50% marks and a 1 year Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed)/special education approved by RCI


A Higher Secondary with at least 50% marks and 4 years B.A.Ed/ B.Sc.Ed (integrated course)

Category B


Orissa Govt may consider relaxation to the candidates belonging to SC/ST, OBC, differently abled persons, etc., in accordance with the Odisha government reservation policy.


Exam dates, vacancies, etc. are updated from time to time by Board of Secondary Education, Odisha. The exam will be usually conducted at the end of the year and the results are released in the first month of the next year. Other government job notification like Orissa CSEOrissa ForestOrissa JLOrissa Police, etc., are also popular recruitment notifications in the state. The candidates should keep visiting ‘Drona’ regularly, to stay updated.

Application Procedure

Before applying online, candidates should ensure that they have a valid e-mail id, a mobile number and a scanned copy of their photograph, signature & supporting documents.

  1. First, visit the official website http://www.bseodisha.nic.in/.
  2. Click on “Application Form for Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET).
  3. Navigate to the  registration button and click on it.
  4. Fill all the basic details carefully.
  5. Try to submit error free details in the application form.
  6. After successful submission, an application Number with a Password will be generated
  7. Then the candidates need to take printout of SBI challan form and should pay the requisite fee amount in the bank.
  8. Click on Candidates Login button and Login with the generated application number and password.
  9. Try to take a printout of application form for future use.

Selection Process

Candidates have to clear the written test and based on the score, the candidates will be selected for vacant posts. So aspiring candidates should try to get maximum marks. However, before selection, all the certificates of the candidates are verified thoroughly.

Written Test

Candidates will be given 20% of marks as weightage from their earlier TET score. Even they can choose the TET score of their previous exam while applying for the post, if it is higher than the present TET score.

Examination Pattern

The written exam will be consisting of two papers; first paper will be for the candidates who aspire to become teachers for classes I-V.

The second paper is for the candidates who aspire to teach students of classes VI-VIII and along with this, the candidate needs to select an optional i.e., either mathematics or science. However, a candidate can attempt both the papers to increase the chance of getting through the exam.
