Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission

The formation of Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission dates back to the pre-independence era when the British Government had set up a Public Service Commission to study the salary structure in the Indian Civil Service. It comprised of four Englishmen and four Indians. The Commission had set a rate to increase the Membership in Indian Civil Service and Indian Police in the fifteen and twenty-five years respectively. The commission gave authority to Provincial Government to decide on the formation of Public Service Commission. With this mandate, The Madras Service Commission came into existence in the year 1929 under the Act of the Madras Legislature. It attained the privilege of only Indian Province with Public Service Commission.

Post-Independence, after re-organization of States, Madras Service Commission was named as Madras Public Service Commission in the year 1957.
