Gujarat with a geographical area of 196,024 km2 is the westernmost state of the country and is referred as the “Jewel of Western India” and “Land of Legends”. It has a large coastline of 1,600 km and most of it lies on the Kathiawar peninsula. Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Arabian Sea and Sindh (Pakistan) border the state. The capital city of the state is Gandhinagar, but its largest city is Ahmedabad. The state is the home to some of the important sites of the ancient Indus valley civilisation such as Dholavira and Lothal. Gujarati nationalists agitated for the separate state to Gujarati speaking people called the Mahagujarat Movement. Meanwhile, Marathi nationalists started Samyukta Maharashtra movement which led to the split of Bombay state into Maharashtra and Gujarat on 1 May 1960. The population of Gujarat State is more than 6.1 crores with a density is 308 km-2 which is lower than many other Indian states. However, the sex ratio is very poor with 918 females for every 1000 males.
The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) looks after the schools run by the Government of Gujarat. The majority of the private schools in Gujarat are affiliated to the CISCE and CBSE boards. Gujarat has four agricultural universities and 13 state universities and many prestigious institutes such as IIT Gandhinagar, Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA), Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad (MICA), National Institute of Design (NID), Nirma University in Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad which is considered as one of the best management Universities in the world, etc.
Gujarat Public Service Commission (GPSC) is responsible for all the notifications related to recruitment, examinations, exam schedules, results, etc. pertaining to the state government jobs. The important job notification are Gujarat Civil Services, Gujarat Forest, Gujarat Police, etc. The jobs are segregated based on their standards level, patterns, and eligibility.
