Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission is widely known as APSPSC. With the provisions given under Article 315 of the Constitution of India, the Public Service Commissions have been established by the state governments in their respective states. Andhra Service Commission formed in 1953 with the bifurcation of Madras State into Andhra and Madras States. With the formation of Andhra Pradesh State, A.P. Public Service Commission came into existence on 1st November 1956. Before this, Andhra Public Service Commission (APSPSC) is in Andhra State and Hyderabad Public Service Commission in the Hyderabad State. During its formation Andhra Public Service Commission was constituted with a Chairman and two Members and Hyderabad Public Service Commission with one Member. Due to increase in the workload, Government increased the strength of the Commission to 5 Members in the year 1981, 7 Members in the year 1983 and in 1994 the commission is composed of a Chairman and 9 Members. After the separation of Telangana, the present APSPSC is having one chairman and two members. Drona provides all the required information for the aspirants about this commission.

The statutory functions of the state public Commission are listed in the Article 320 of the Indian constitution. The important functions of the commission are the selection of competent candidates to state government departments through Direct recruitment as per the Article 320 (1) and Recruitment by transfer as given in Article 320(3)(b). The commission also enjoys the Statutory powers relating to services as listed in Article 320 (3)(a) and 320 (3)(b) and have to power to take Disciplinary actions against the employees. The commission also looks after the Reimbursement of legal expenses and extraordinary pension cases. It looks after the appointments of temporary employees and their continuance along with permanent state government posts. APSPSC also conducts admission test to the RIMC, Dehradun and it conducts proficiency tests for AIS Officers. The commission also conducts half yearly examinations for IAS and IPS Officers and other departmental tests. The other important PSCs are TSPSCTNPSCKSPSC, etc.

Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission strives to keep up the spirit underlying the formation of Public Service Commissions and has introduced many measures to ensure the fair and transparent process for the selection of the right candidates. The important and general recruitment notification released by APPSC are Group I, Group II, Group III, and Group IV. Current affairs and GK related to the state and the country are important part of these exams. Below listed are some of the measures taken by the Commission.

  • The commission has made the Written Test as Mandatory for All Recruitment’s as the proceedings of interviews are always subjected Public debate, criticism, and presumptions. Moreover, for some recruitment’s the commission has reduced the interview marks or removed the interview process.
  • The commission is ensuring a transparent process in selecting the interview board members and recently introduced the sealed cover system for the selection interview panel members
  • In the recent times, APSPSC has significantly reduced the delay time in releasing the results community and zone wise; mostly on the same day evening after the conclusion of interviews.
  • Reviewing the examination scheme in a timely manner and is updating the syllabus and exam pattern in a standard manner.
  • Commission has decided to use the technology and has adapted to the changing scenarios such as usage of scanned copies during application and OMR sheets. These measures have greatly reduced the cost of both the aspirants and government.
