  • The IMD had already predicted that the summer temperatures would be higher than normal in February in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir.
  • These high temperatures in the north are due to a confluence of weather conditions such as Western Disturbances like storms in Mediterranean whichbringrain to thenorthwest and north India and dry south-westerly winds from Gujarat that are blowing to the northern parts of India.
  • These weather confluencesare coupled with an anticyclone, a that pulled in more warm air flowing towards north from the southwest.
  • Because of the meteorological confluence, several states such as Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Orissa, and Rajasthan have recorded severe heat wave conditions.
  • The IMD has already started the process of informing the State government to take necessary actions for preparing the comprehensive heat action plans to combat the heat for this summer.
