Pneumonia vaccine will become a part of Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP)
In children, under five years of age Pneumococcal disease is the leading cause of vaccine-preventable deaths both globally and in India.
India itself accounts for about 20% of global pneumonia deaths of children under five years of age.
Pneumonia vaccine can protect from many Pneumococcal diseases, such as pneumonia, meningitis, etc.
The pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) will be given in three doses.
This vaccine has the capability to offer protection from 13 types of pneumococcal bacteria than can cause pneumonia disease
Now, in the Universal Immunization program the vaccination had reached 12 diseases like pertussis (whooping cough), tuberculosis, diphtheria, tetanus, Hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, measles, rubella, Rotavirus, Diarrhoea, Japanese Encephalitis, and Pneumonia.
Rank list of Public affairs index released
For the year 2017, Public affairs index (PAI) ranks has been released an initiative of Public Affairs Committee (PAC).
The PAI ranks the Indian states based on their performance or development in the field of governance.
Ten themes, 82 indicators and 26 focus subjects of the state administration are considered for ranking.
The important themes are support to human development, essential infrastructure, social protection, law and order, women and children, crime, delivery of justice, fiscal management, transparency and accountability, environment, and economic freedom.
In 2017 rankings Kerala topped the list with Bihar state at the bottom
Kerala is followed by Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh
Among the states having less than 2 crore population i.e., small states Himachal Pradesh ranked top followed by Goa.
Interestingly Delhi positioned at 9, but last year it was in third position.
Meghalaya is at the bottom of the list with 12th rank and Jammu Kashmir (10th) and Arunachal Pradesh (11th) are followed.
In terms of infrastructure top three states are Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh
With respect to human development the top three state are Kerala, Maharashtra, and Punjab while the worst performers are Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Assam.
In the implementation of social policy Kerala, Assam and Madhya Pradesh occupied first three positions while Telangana, Haryana and Punjab are lagging in execution of both State and Central government schemes.
In the women and children category Kerala, Odisha and Karnataka are top performers while Jharkhand, Haryana and Maharashtra are poor performers.
Tamil Nadu ranked top in many categories like environment, delivery of justice, law and order, but stood last in transparency and accountability.
In terms of Fiscal management Telangana ranked top and Andhra Pradesh secured last rank.
PM Launched Cashlesss or less Cash Township Model
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched a cashless/less cash township model in Nagpur. Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd developed this township model.
Bharuch in Gujarat which is a GNFC’s township became India’s first complete cashless township
Prime Minister had launched 75 cashless/less-cash townships, and 56 of them are in Gujarat.
The townships which spanned across 12 states were facilitated to become cashless/less cash under National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog.
The townships were selected based on the third-party assessment and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) was the task of assessment.
NITI Aayog advised all CMDs of 300 plus central PSUs and ministries under government of India to adopt GNFC’s model.
This initiative of cashless/less cash township is aligned with the PM’s vision of cashless society.
BHIM App for Merchants Launched
National Payments Corporation of India announced the launch of Bharat Interface for Money mobile application for Aadhaar-based payments which can be used by merchants.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched this service in Nagpur.
Through this service customers can make purchases using Aadhaar number which is linked with bank account.
However, the transaction requires customer’s fingerprint to complete.
