Current Notification
Introduction
The history of civil services in India can be traced back to Mauryan Empire and Mughal Empire. The current Civil Service examination conducted in the country is based on the Imperial Civil Service tests conducted during British era. Union public service commission conducts Engineering Services Examination for the recruitment of eligible candidates to services or posts of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. RRB also releases recruitment notification of RRB engineers to select eligible engineers for the government posts. Indian Navy and Indian air Force are other central government employers of engineers.

Eligibility Criteria
Age
- The Aspiring candidates must not be older than 30 years and less than 21 years of age
Education
Must have obtained a degree in Engineering from any recognized University or incorporated by Act of the State or Central Legislature in India or from other Educational Institutions which are established by Act of Parliament or Deemed Universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956; (or)
Must have passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations conducted by Institution of Engineers (India); (or)
An Engineering degree from foreign University/College/Institution recognised by the Government (or)
A pass in Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or (e) a pass in Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or (f) a pass in Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London which was held after 1959 November and for the post of Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and the Indian Radio Regulatory Service Gr ‘A’ aspiring candidates must possess M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in Radio Physics, Electronics, Wireless Communication/Radio Engineering.
Candidates must be physically fit as per the Rules of Engineering Services Examination, 2017 published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary dated 28.09.2016.
Relaxations
- The upper age‐limit will be relaxed to a maximum of five years if the candidates belong to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.
- Three years for Other Backward Classes
- Up to five years for the candidates who had domiciled in the State of Jammu and Kashmir from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989.
- Ten years for deaf‐mute and Orthopedically handicapped persons.

Selection Procedure
The Engineering Services Examination has three stages.
- a. Preliminary Examination
- b. Main Examination
- c. Interview
The preliminary Examination consists of two papers which are of objective type and carries 500 marks (200+300). The marks obtained in the mains exam will be considered for the final selection of the candidate. The Engineering Services Mains Examination consists two conventional type papers which will be from Engineering Discipline. Each paper carries 300 marks and three hours duration will be given and final stage personality test carries 200 Marks.

The Examination consists of two papers of multiple choice questions. First paper carries 200 marks and the second paper 300 marks.

For all the papers compensatory time of 20 minutes will be given to the physically challenged candidates.
Interview/Personality Test
The UPSC board calls the qualified candidates for interview. The interview panel tests the suitability of the candidates for the post and assesses their personality, attitude, etc., and maximum marks allotted will be 200. Based on the total marks obtained in both written examination and personality test the candidates will be given ranks.
