UPSC is also known for other important notifications such as combined medical services, engineering services, combined defence services, civil services, NDA and Naval academy exams, Economic services, combined geo scientist and geologist exam,  forest service and Special class railway apprentice (SCRA). Introduction

Union public service commission recruits eligible candidates to Indian Economic Service and Indian Statistical Service through INDIAN ECONOMIC SERVICE/INDIAN STATISTICAL SERVICE EXAMINATION. These enter into these central government positions candidates should have high level of knowledge in their respective subjects. Drona provides required information to the aspirants for clearing this exam. 

Positions

Category I- Posts in the Geological Survey of India which comes under Ministry of Mines.

  • (i) Junior Officer in Indian Economic Service
  • (ii) Junior Officer in Indian Statistical Service

Eligibility Criteria

Age

Aspiring candidates must not be older than 30 years and less than 21 years of age.

Education

  • Indian Economic Service

Candidates must have a Post-Graduate Degree in Economics/Applied Economics/Econometrics/Business Economics from any recognised University.

  •  Indian Statistical Service

A Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics/Applied Statistics/Mathematical Statistics as one of the main subject.        (or)

Master’s degree in Statistics/Applied Statistics/Mathematical Statistics from any recognised University.

Physical Standards

Candidates must be Mentally & physically fit for admission to Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination as per the Regulations given in Appendix III of Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination.

Relaxations

  • The upper age limit will be relaxed by a maximum of five years for Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe candidates.
  • Three years for the candidates who belong to Other Backward Classes.
  • Five years for the candidates who had domiciled in the Jammu and Kashmir State from the 1st January 1980 to the 31st day of December 1989.
  • For Government servants, the upper age limit will be relaxed up to a maximum of 7 years.
  • Ten years for deafmute and Orthopedically disabled persons.

How To Apply

  • Candidates need to apply online through the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in
  • Detailed instructions for applying online will be given on the website.
  • Candidates need to pay the requisite fee and should submit the application.
  • Female candidates, physically challenged and the candidates belonging to SC/ST will be exempted from paying the fees.

Selection Procedure

The Indian Economic Service AND Indian Statistical Service examination will have two stages.

  • The written exam, which consists of six papers of which one paper will be from English, one paper from aptitude and remaining four papers will be from the subject.
  • Interview

Examination Pattern

Written Examination

The Examination consists of six papers, and the first paper questions will be from English and second paper will be from general studies; each paper carries 100 marks. This paper is compulsory for all the posts. Remaining three papers will be from the concerned subject, and each paper carries 200 marks. For each paper, three hours of time will be given.

Note

  • Statistics Paper I & II will be of Objective Type, and Paper III & IV will be of Descriptive Type.
  • General Studies and General English papers will be common to both Services and will be of subjective type.

All the papers of Indian Economic Service will be subjective type.

Interview/Personality Test

The UPSC board selects candidates for interview based on their performance in the written exam. The interview panel tests the suitability of the candidates and assesses their personality, attitude, etc. The interview carries 200 marks.
