Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) is the Government of India undertaking which processes natural gas, and it is into various business segments across the nation. GAIL is in different business sectors such as liquid hydrocarbon, production and exploration, gas distribution, the transmission of petroleum gas and petrochemical, electricity generation and GAILTEL. It has been given the status of Maharatna in the year 2013, by the Indian Government. The status is enjoyed by only six other Public Sector Undertakings in India.
According to the Brand Trust Report 2014, it secured the position of 131 in the most trusted brand’s segment. GAIL was established in the year 1984; it is the PSU which operates under the ministership of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG). It is India’s major marketing and transmission company. GAIL was given the responsibility of maintaining the pipeline of Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) project in India. This line is one of the world’s cross-country pipelines in India.
GAIL has been performing consistently very well; it has a market share of over 70 per cent. The PSU has achieved numerous milestones with its productive workforce. People feel honoured to work in this wonderful organization as it gives learning experience to the trainees.
India’s largest natural gas company is considered to be top-ranked in the utility section with a total turnover of Rs. 51,614 crores, its entire value involves a broad range of business that includes Transmission of liquefied petroleum gas, Production, and Marketing of Petrochemicals.
The subsidiary units of GAIL are into wind power and solar electricity generation. It includes the exploration and production of natural gas. The company has been highly acclaimed for achieving the milestone of completing 11,000-kilometer-long natural gas pipeline and 2038-kilometre-long LPG transmission network.
The company has a total workforce of 4321 employees across India, despite having such a lean workforce, it can finish the cumbersome task within the stipulated time. GAIL believes in recruiting the most qualified individuals into services which are government jobs, it recruits candidates through campus recruitment and regular notifications, for few positions it considers GATE score, the position of graduate engineers is popular among the engineering graduates across the country. Similar types of recruitment of eligible candidates into these central government posts are done by other PSUs like FCI, BSNL, NTPC, etc.
