Indian Navy selects eligible engineering candidates for serving in general service, submarine and naval architecture works. The candidates who get selected, will be given an opportunity to pursue higher studies in prestigious institutes. Eligibility Criteria

Engineers for general service

Aspiring candidates must have passed BE/B Tech Degree with at least 60% marks from any recognised university in one of the below-given streams:-

  • Marine
  • Mechanical
  • Aeronautical
  • Production
  • Metallurgy
  • Control
  • Any other allied discipline

Engineers for submarine

Aspiring candidates must have passed BE/B Tech Degree with at least 55% marks from any recognised university in one of the below given streams

Automation & Robotics/ Aeronautical/Aerospace/Mechanical/Marine/ Automotive/Mectronics/ Industrial & Production/Metallurgy/BS Marine.Engg/Instrumentation/Instrumentation and control/ Industrial Engg & Management/Production Engg

Engineers for Naval Architecture

BE/B. Tech Degree from any recognised university in any one of the below-given streams with at least 60% marks.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS

The preferred height for a candidate of age 18 years will be 157 cm for males and for females 152 cm. Details regarding other anthropometric measurements will be given in the official website.

The Indian navy also recruits eligible candidates into various departments through various recruitment notifications such as executive officers, education officers, sailors, electrical officers, and medical officers

How To Apply

  1. Visit the official website and navigate to the button of ‘Officer Entry’ which will be under ‘Apply Online’.
  2. Fill the online application form with all the necessary details that are asked for.
  3. Then print the online application by clicking on “Print Application”.
  4. Take 2 copies print of the system generated online Application form which is having an Application Number.
  5. In one of the copy Paste recently taken passport size photo in the space provided and self-attest the photo and keep the other copy for future reference.
  6. Post this application form along with the relevant documents to the address prescribed in the notification, in an envelope.
  7. On the envelope write “ONLINE APPLICATION NO. ________ . and APPLICATION FOR PC (EDN) / SSC (LOG)–  COURSE date. Qualification______ Percentage _____%. And NCC ‘C’ Yes/No.

Selection Procedure

STEP 1

Candidates can enter the course/training in four ways that are given below

  1. NDA and CDSE
  2. NCC entry
  3. Direct Entry Permanent Commission/Short Service Commission (DEPC/DESSC)
  4. UNIVERSITY ENTRY SCHEME

STEP 2 – SSB (Services Selection Board) TESTING

Candidates who clear the step I needs to attend the tests conducted by the Services Selection Board.

STEP 3 Medical Examinations

STEP 4 – All India Merit List Preparation

Examination Pattern

STEP 1

Candidates have to qualify NDA or CDSE exam conducted by the UPSC or the IHQ MoD (Navy) /DMPR recruits eligible candidates directly for the SSB test. The notification for direct recruitment will be advertised in all the leading news papers. The holders of NCC ‘C’ certificate can apply through IHQ MoD (N)/ DMPR through DGNCC for SSB test.

Candidates can enter the service through University Entry Scheme which will be under the control of IHQ MoD (Navy)/ DMPR. This department caters for both the Short Service Commission (SSC) and Permanent Commission (PC). This UES is conducted once in a year, and this exam coincides with the induction of Autumn Term at Indian Naval Academy.

STEP 2 – SSB (Services Selection Board) Test

This step consists of two stages

Stage I is just a screening test and the candidates who qualify this test will become eligible to attend next stage of this step. Below are the tests that are conducted at this stage.

  • Picture Perception and Discussion Test
  • Officer Intelligence Rating Test
  • Stage II Testing

The outlines of the tests during this stage are listed below.

  • Written Psychological Tests framed by a Psychologist.
  • Group Tests are having interactive indoor and outdoor activities which will be a combination of mental and physical work.
  • Interview with an Interviewing Officer.

The details about these tests will be explained in detail to the candidates before they are conducted.

STEP 3 – CONDUCT OF MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS

After successfully qualifying step II candidates will be sent for the medical examination at the nearest service hospitals. The medical examination procedure is given below.

Special Medical Board (SMB)

Special Medical Board (SMB) for officer candidates will be held at some designated hospitals for 3 to 4 working days. Candidates will be declared Fit/Unfit/Temporary Unfit or Permanent Unfit by the boards depending on their medical conditions

Appeal Medical Board (AMB)

Candidates who will be declared Unfit by SMB can apply for AMB after depositing Rs 40/- in the Government Treasury. These candidates need to report for AMB at designated Command Hospital with in 42 days. Candidates will be declared unfit by AMB can appeal to Review Medical Board.

Review Medical Board (RMB)

AMB president will intimate the candidate about the reason for unfitness through a leaflet. RMBs will be conducted at Armed Forces Medical College Pune and Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi.

STEP 4 – ALL INDIA MERIT LIST

Based on the performance in all the tests candidates will be selected and joining instructions will be issued to join the Training establishments for the candidates.

Almost similar recruitment pattern is observed for the selection of eligible candidates into other indian armed forces i.e., Indian army and Indian air force.
