Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officer Jobs

Introduction

Indian Army is the largest branch of the Indian armed forces with more than 12 lakh active personnel and about one lakh reserved personnel. It is the land based branch or wing of the army. Indian Army selects eligible candidates as officers in various sections of territorial army of India. Drona provides overview of the recruitment of these central government jobs.

Positions and Eligibility Criteria

1 Soldier General Duty (All Arms) SSLC / Matric with a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate and a minimum of 33% in each subject. But, no percentage required for the candidates having higher qualification i.e. 10+2 or above. 17 ½ – 21 Yrs
2 Soldier (Technical) (Artillery, Technical Arms, Army Air Defence) 10+2 / Intermediate Exam Pass with Physics, Maths, Chemistry, and English with a minimum of 45% marks in total with a minimum of 40% in each subject. 17 ½ – 23 Yrs
3 Soldier Clerk / Store Keeper Technical (All Arms) 10+2 or Intermediate Exam pass in any stream with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and a minimum 40% in each subject. Candidates must have studied and passed in English and Accounts /Maths / Book Keeping in Class X or XII with 40% marks in each subject. In the case of graduate candidates with Maths and English as one of the subjects in BSc, the minimum marks criteria will be waived off. But for graduates without English and Accounts/Maths/Book Keeping, the minimum marks criteria holds. 17 ½ – 23 Yrs
4 Soldier Nursing Assistant (Army Medical Corps) 10+2 or Intermediate exam pass in Science with Chemistry, Physics, Biology and English with a Min of 50% marks in aggregate and a min 40% in each subject.

But for BSc Degree candidates the minimum marks criteria will be waived off. However, the candidate must have studied all the four subjects specified, in Class XII also.

5 Soldier Nursing Assistant Veterinary (Remount Veterinary Corps) 10+2 or Intermediate exam pass in Science with Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and English with a Min of 50% marks in aggregate and a minimum of 40% in each subject. 17 ½ – 21 Yrs
6 Soldier Tradesmen (All Arms) 10th / ITI (except for Syce. Mess Keeper, and House Keeper- 8th pass). 17 ½ – 23 Yrs
7 Survey Automated Cartographer (Engineers) BA or B Sc with Maths. Must have Maths and Science as main subjects in 12th class (10+2) or its equivalent. 20-25 Yrs
8 Junior Commissioned Officer Religious Teacher (All Arms) Graduate in any discipline with requisite qualification in a religious denomination. 27-34 Yrs
9 Junior Commissioned Officer Catering (Army Service Corps) 10+2 or equivalent exam with a Diploma / Certificate Course of a duration of minimum one year or more in Cookery / a diploma in Hotel Management and Catering from any recognised University / Food Craft Institute. 21-27 Yrs
10 Havildar Education (Army Education Corps) For Group X – M Sc/MA/MCA or BSc/BA/BCA/B Sc (IT) with a BEd, Group Y – BA /B Sc / BCA / B Sc (IT) with a B Ed. 20-25 Yrs

Medical Standards: –

  1. Aspiring candidates must have good mental health and robust physique.
  2. Chest must be well developed and must have a minimum of 5 cm expansion.
  3. Should have a normal hearing for each ear and must have a good binocular vision for both the eyes.
  4. Must have a sufficient number of natural teeth and healthy gum, i.e., a minimum of 14 dental points.
  5. Should not have deformities in bones, varicocele or piles and hydrocele.
  6. Soldier General Duty for Infantry must have 6/6 eye sight and the same is for Army officers also.

Relaxations

Government norms will be followed for Age relaxations and reservations.

Application Procedure

Aspiring must apply online through the official website. Candidates must fill the details as per the details recorded in Matric Certificate. Aspiring Candidates must have a valid email id and a mobile number. Scanned copy of passport size photo and signature in jpg format should be uploaded to complete the application procedure.

Selection Procedure

Selection Procedures for the eligible candidates consists of below-given stages.

  • Checking of the documents.
  • Physical fitness test.
  • Physical measurement.
  • Medical examination.
  • Written exam and interview
  • Merit list Preparation and allotting of arms and services.
  • Enrollment & dispatch of the selected candidates to the Training Centers.

Examination Pattern

Physical Test

Physical Fitness Tests (PFT) will be carried out for all categories and mandatory during the screening process to assess the candidate’s courage and physical ability.

The following tests will be conducted under Physical Fitness Tests (PFT)

  • 1.6 km run to test Endurance.
  • Pull Ups Under Grip on Beam to test Strength.
  • 9 feet Ditch to assess Courage.
  • Zig-Zag Balance to test Agility.

1.6 Km Run

Soldier General Duty Only

Group I – Up to 5 mins 40 secs – 60 Marks

Group II – From 5 mins 41 secs to 6 mins – 48 Marks

All Category Less Soldier General Duty Only

Group I – Up to 5 mins 40 secs – 60 Marks

Group II – From 5 mins 41 secs to 6 mins to 20 secs – 48 Marks

Above 6 mins 20 secs are considered to be Failed.

For Hilly Terrain Areas Provisions for Extra Time will be given for 1.6 Km Run

  • Up to 5000 feet – 15 secs extra given to each group.
  • Between 5000 feet to 9000 feet – 30 secs extra given to each group.
  • Between 9000 feet to 12000 feet – 120 secs extra given to each group.

Written Examination

The written exam will be having two papers, and the first paper will be of qualifying in nature and the marks obtained in this exam will be of qualifying in nature. To qualify in this paper, candidates belonging to all the categories must get a minimum of 40% marks.

Candidates qualified in the first paper have to write the second paper and the marks obtained in this paper will be counted in the final merit list. The question paper consists of 100 questions and carries 100 marks and candidates need to get a minimum of 40 marks to get selected for an interview.

Min 6 Pull Ups are required to pass the test.

Candidates qualified in PET must have required physical standards and should pass the medical test. Then candidates will be allowed to write common written exam.

Weightage in Merit

Performance of individual for Soldier Technical / Nursing Assistant and Soldier Tradesman; General Duty Soldier Clerk /Technical / Store Keeper will be taken into account while awarding bonus marks.

Common Entrance Examination (CEE) marks.

  • Tradesmen with Aptitude Test

Physical Fitness Test (PFT) marks 30% + Common Entrance Examination (CEE) marks 30% + Tradesman Aptitude Test marks 40%.

  • Tradesmen without Aptitude Test

Physical Fitness Test (PFT) marks 60% + Common Entrance Examination (CEE) marks 40%.

  • Tradesmen Musician

Physical Fitness Test (PFT) marks 50% + Aptitude Test marks 25% + Common Entrance Examination (CEE) marks 25%.

  • Havildar Survey Automated Cartographer and Havildar Education

No Weightage.

Written Examination

The written exam will be having two papers, and the first paper will be of qualifying in nature and the marks obtained in this exam will be of qualifying in nature. Interview

The board will shortlist the candidates based on the performance in second paper and the number of vacancies. The candidates for the posts will be selected based on the overall score in an interview and written exam paper II.
